Frequently Asked Questions

Microblading

What Is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent application of pigment into the skin creating the illusion of fuller eyebrows. The process involves using a tool containing tiny, fine-point needles to draw individual brow hairs that will last for roughly 12 to 18 months before fading entirely. Thicker, fuller, and more even brows are results that can be expected after microblading. Microblading is completed through a two step process. The initial appointment is for consultation as well as brow design and mapping, color choice, and the actual microblading. The second visit is necessary to address any issues with color or shape resulting from the healing process.

How Long Will the Microblading Last?

Microblading typically lasts for 12-18 months. In the beginning, the color will be significantly more vivid or darker compared to the final look when healing is complete. When the brows are completely healed, the color will look softer and more natural. The microblading is semi-permanent and will have to be touched up approximately one year later. The pigment may fade from exposure to the sun so sunscreen must be worn to avoid premature fading.

What Can I Expect After The Initial Appointment?

After your initial appointment, your eyebrows might look slightly swollen or red and feel sore. In the first 2-3 days after your first appointment, your skin will scab lightly and feel somewhat tight. Do not rub or scratch your brows while they are healing or you could remove some of the pigment too soon. As the skin heals, your eyebrows will seem lighter but the pigment will show again after a few weeks.

Is Microblading Painful?

Microblading can be painful for some people while others may feel no pain at all. Numbing cream is applied before the procedure and can be applied after the skin is broken if you are experiencing discomfort. Please speak up if you are experiencing a high level of discomfort during the procedure.

What Happens at the Second Appointment?

The second appointment is an essential part of the microblading process and is used as a touch up session. The appointment is necessary to make finishing touches such as color adjustments or changes to the shape. Also, more hair strokes may be added if necessary. Do not skip the second appointment. If you do not come for your touch up session, you will not achieve the full effect of the microblading.

I Have Botox, Can I Have Microblading Done?

You can have your eyebrows microbladed if you have Botox but you must wait 2-3 weeks from your last treatment. It is important for you to inform me of any Botox prior to the appointment.

How Do I Know Which Type Of Microblading To Get?

Modern Brow offers different styles and types of microblading which can cause confusion at times. The type of appointment you book depends on the amount of natural hair you have in your brows, your skin type, your desired outcome.

Basic microblading is the best option if you are looking for a natural look and if you have a good amount of natural hair. If you have oily skin, basic microblading would not be the best option for you.

Microblading and shading works well if you are looking for more fullness or if you have very little natural eyebrow hair but would still like a natural look. This type of microblading is best if you have dry or normal skin.

Combination brows work well if you would like a more defined brow and you want to avoid the use of eyebrow makeup. If you have oily skin, dry skin, or normal skin, combo brows would be a good option for you.

Ombre brows are only shading and appear like powder eyebrow makeup after the healing process is complete. The ombre brow is good if you have oily skin and cannot hold onto the hair strokes or if you desire the powdery look. If you are unsure which type of microblading would be best for you, please call to discuss all the details with one of our associates.

Lip Blush

Will Lip Blush hurt?

Before and throughout the procedure I will apply a numbing agent to help reduce the sensitivity. The lips are the most sensitive area for permanent cosmetics so the numbing will help but you may still feel minimal discomfort.

How long is the healing process?

The healing process will vary per person but you can generally expect 10 days of healing process for the lips to feel normal. Initially you will leave the appointment with very swollen lips. Over a 24 hours your lips will reduce in swelling. You’ll go through a shedding period while your  tissue regenerates. This will make the lips look as if they are shedding the pigment. This is the bodies natural way of healing and is completely normal. The color will vary drastically over a 10 day period. You can expect to see the color fully bloom 6-8 weeks post appointment. You will need to schedule a perfecting appointment 8 weeks after your initial appointment to perfect the color and shape, if needed.

What will my lips look like immediately after?

Big and bold! Your lips will look swollen or larger than normal. The color will also be darker like your wearing a bold lipstick but will fade over the week by 50%. They will feel very dry or like you have a sun burn so remember to reapply your lip balm.

How long does Lip Blush last?

This is a form of permanent cosmetics so you can expect pigment to remain in your skin forever. The pigment however will dull over time so I recommend getting a touch up to freshen the color every 1-3 years.

What if I have had lip filler or plan on getting lip filler?

This is a great procedure to perfect your lip filler pout! Please allow 4 weeks after your lip filler appointment before scheduling your Lip Blush.

Can I still wear other lipsticks?

Absolutely! Lip Blush is great for a every day effortless look. When you want to be glammed up, go ahead and pull out that bold red! Please do allow your lips to fully heal before applying lipstick.

I have previous lip tattoo, do you do touch ups or corrections?

It will really depend on the remaining pigment and the look you’re trying to achieve. Please e-mail me a picture of the lips and we can discuss options.
